I nurture and nourish the people around me by creating and sustaining a community of care, joy, and connection.
Deepa Iyer, Solidarity Is and Building Movement Project
I care so much about others. I am always willing to help and spread some type of positivity - a smile is one of the simplest forms.
What are you most passionate about?
I am most passionate about spending time with my family. When I say family, I don't just mean my small family but I also mean my grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins. Family for me is everything and that is the reason I take the time to spend quality time with them as much as possible. I really love my family because I know they will always support me no matter what. The bond we all have with each other is unbreakable and with God's favor it will continue to be this strong.
If you're okay with sharing, can you tell us about being a caregiver for your older brother? Why is serving those around you important to you?
Being a caregiver for my older brother Jose, who has cerebral palsy, has brought me joy. He is one happy little angel sent straight from heaven. His contagious smile always brightens my day. He's one of the strongest people I know. It is beautiful how he can be in so much pain and still smile. Serving those around me is important to me because I know how it feels to struggle and have the support fill in for that. Just a bit of help from my Aunts or Uncles would be enough for my family to feel uplifted. Furthermore, my mom and my brother have taught me that we all need each other and that if we have the chance to help, to help.
What do you value most about Access Opportunity?
What I value the most about Access Opportunity is the support and the bond that this community has. AO is always supporting us by truly making things happen for us and making sure that we don't doubt our capabilities to accomplish things. Family requires love, not DNA, and AO to me is family. There is always an optimistic and caring vibe that makes everything possible and I am truly grateful for that.
